If you are logged into Google you have a choice concerning search results.

googleThis is from personal search. The “personal” icon appears next to results. Note the second and third results here.
GoogleThis is the result from the “world” view. The third result has jumped to number two. The personal icons and the video have disappeared.
Google has become very smart. Even while logged out you still receive results based on location and browser history. Your Google experience has never been the same as mine.

My Thoughts on Google Search Plus Your World
How the different sides of me see the issue:
The Marketer
I feel angry about Google’s innovations being “opt-in”. Remember Buzz? This approach makes Google into a big bully. Opting Out becomes difficult and requires you to have a Google account in order to do so completely. The FTC is currently investigating violations of anti-trust laws.
The User
Is concerned with how to find a balanced search engine. Social signals have been adapted into Google’s competitors as well. A change brought on by the popularity of social networks, the prevalence of spam, and the need for relevant results. The time is ripe to bring back Google classic.
The Copywriter
I love the challenge of thinking about what a world with social search is. It changes my profession and how I write for digital publication. I have been sharing my thoughts on social seo with you on Cirquedumot.
I believe an enduring standard for Copywriting is reader experience.
It will always be important to write for your audience. The most potent and enduring advertising has come from tapping into that tableau of human emotion; hopes, desires, and fears. People will always be drawn to content that resonates with their personal experiences.
